IMPORTANT MEMORANDUM
TO: All Hockey NL Members

RE: Non-Sanctioned Policy
Dear Members
This past September, Hockey Canada released an updated national policy for Non-Sanctioned Hockey. Following this release, Hockey NL began the process of implementing a policy to align with this national initiative. As part of this undertaking, Hockey NL engaged members of our Councils and local Association Presidents across the province for feedback and input into the policy. That feedback was incorporated into the final policy that was approved by the Board of Hockey NL as well as Hockey Canada.
Part of the package being released today is an FAQ with many of the common questions that were received as part of the policy development process. This FAQ is the first place to stop if and when someone has a question as to the policy itself. It is by no means complete and Hockey NL shall endeavor to update it as new questions arise. If there are concerns, the first and best place to reach out is to our team at the Hockey NL office. Our Executive Director, Craig Tulk, can assist and direct your concern as needed should you not find the answer within the FAQ.
Additionally, we have included a template Parent/Player Agreement. This document has been developed using samples already in use with Associations across Newfoundland and Labrador. While some will be seeing this type of document for the first time, it has been in use and circulation with some groups for over twenty years. ALL Associations/Leagues/Teams are encouraged to have this agreement in place with their membership in an effort to clearly delineate the responsibilities of the Member/Parent and the obligations of the Association/League/Team. Our Councils can support any concerns that you may have with respect to this Player/Parent Agreement.
Hockey NL recognizes that this policy is new, and that the Hockey Canada policy was released only this past September, there will be questions as we all adjust to having it in place. Our team is here to support and help you as we move forward together.
Yours in Hockey,
Dr. Jared Butler CCFP(SEM), CCPE
President and CMO Hockey NL
