Greetings #CelticsHockeyNation,
This News post provides an important update from your Board of Directors regarding recent discussions on the topic of St. John’s Minor Hockey Association : Avalon Minor Hockey Association boundary matters and the structure of minor hockey program delivery in HNL’s Eastern Zone or ‘Metro’ region.

As previously shared via October 11 News post, this topic was raised at our October 3 Annual General Meeting and discussed at a follow-up special meeting on October 18.  We collected information during the October 18 meeting and received unsolicited post-meeting feedback that was reviewed among Board and staff.

During the AGM and Special Meeting, it was suggested by several members that a merger with the St. John’s Minor Hockey Association was the best solution to resolve this challenge.  Based on our discussions and feedback received, Avalon’s Board will review programming options and collaborate with Hockey NL Executive who are reviewing boundary matters in the Metro region and other strategies they are developing for 2023-24 season and beyond.  Merger options with other Hockey NL Associations will be reviewed and pursued only if we cannot achieve desired results with boundary and programming solutions.

The board will keep lines of communication open with other Associations and Hockey NL while continuing to discuss collaborative solutions and strategies to best deliver minor hockey programs to the youth of Hockey NL’s Eastern Zone.
