Member Email – August 30: Registration Opening || Female Program Update || Goaltender Development Program
Greetings #CelticsHockeyNation!
AMHA is pleased to announce we are ready to open online registration for the 2022-23 season! We will open TeamSnap registration on our website Registration Form link at 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 1. Registration for all programs is on a first come, first served basis for new and returning Avalon players.
We have updated our Registration Guide on our web site and we encourage everyone to reference this document prior to starting the registration process or sending inquiries.
We anticipate high demand for the Growlers Academy Camp, so please register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Growlers Academy Camp is being reserved for registered AMHA players up to September 9. Any available spots in the Camp will be open to other Eastern Zone registered players after that date. Exceptions will be made for U15 / U13 AMHA players (Minor and Female) who are registered with the DJHL AAA and AA tryout process – a registration category will be open to these players to permit them to register and pay Growlers Academy Fees only.
We have done substantial planning around the projected programming for 2022-23 season, however, all programs are subject to registration uptake. AMHA will not guarantee any programs until registration is substantially complete by the September 30 deadline. After September 30, we will confirm all program offerings and accept late registration on space available basis.
AMHA posted this previous News post detailing dates, all star try out process, and how we coordinate with DJHL and reserve spots for players released from the DJHL try out process. All members interested in competitive hockey should read and understand the document and try out process.
We get it! This time of year there is a lot of new information to absorb and you are all drinking from a fire hose! So please be patient and send inquiries re: registration process via email to Justin Clark, Executive Director, jclark@avalonceltics.com. Please consider placing player / family name in the subject line and brief description of the inquiry.
We hope everyone has a fantastic 2022-23 season and we thank you for your support and loyalty!

TIMESAVER TIP: No need to read past this point of the email if you are not connected to Female hockey or Goaltending!!
Female Hockey – U9 U11 U13 U15
AMHA is pleased to announce we will be offering female only programming this season! AMHA players will have an opportunity to register for female only programs in U9, U11, and U15.
U9 Female
The U9 program is projected to consist of 2 hours per week, minimum of 1 hour practice per week and house games for second hour. AMHA will pursue all opportunities for female hockey events, jamborees, and exhibition games subject to approval by HNL Female Council. All programming will follow the Hockey Canada / Hockey NL U9 Pathways with an emphasis on higher ratio of practice vs. games.
U11 Female
We encourage all new and returning female players in U11 to register for Female division. If registration numbers support the division, Avalon’s projected U11 program will have minimum of one AMHA team formed and play in the Eastern Zone or ‘Metro’ League. Program will consist of 1 practice and 1 game per week and an opportunity to participate in potential invitational tournaments and HNL Female Provincial Championships in Spring 2023.
U15 Female
We project sufficient numbers to form a U15 Avalon Celtics team that will play in the Eastern Zone or ‘Metro’ League. Program will consist of 1 practice and 1 game per week and an opportunity to participate in invitational tournaments and HNL Female Provincial Championships in Spring 2023.
As many families in U15 Female hockey may be aware, the Don Johnson Hockey League (DJHL) will offer a new 4 team pooled U15 league this season. Players that try out and are selected for this league are also required to register with an Eastern Zone Association Female program. This requirement is planned for the upcoming 2022-23 season only and subject to change in future seasons.
U13 Female
Many of our returning players in U13 Female are expected to try out for the DJHL U13 AA Pooled league. Players that are successful in making this 4 team league will not play in any other leagues – Minor or Female. Depending on U13 Female registration and results from DJHL tryouts, we may be able to offer a U13 Female division, however, we are projecting that we will not have sufficient numbers.
U13 female players who choose to not try out for DJHL, or are released from the try out can register with our co-ed program. 2010 players in this situation may have an opportunity to play up with AMHA’s U15 female team. Again, this is subject to registration numbers and approval by HNL Female Council.
As many families with female players are aware, Avalon has made great strides in growing Female hockey under the leadership of Coach Sean Colford and other parent volunteers. The pandemic certainly presented some challenges, but we are confident 2022-23 will be Avalon’s year to make an impact in Female hockey in the Capital region!
Goaltending Program
At the time of this News Post release, we are very close to final details on our 2022-23 Goaltender Development Program. We expect our program details will be finalized in the coming days and added to the TeamSnap registration form.
Space will be limited and additional emails and notice will be provided to member prior to opening our registration form.
Go Celtics Go!
