AMHA is pleased to connect and wish all players, parents, and supporters of our Club a Happy New Year and all the very best for a bright and exciting 2021!  2020 brought many challenges, however, we believe we have many things to be thankful for and lots to look forward to in 2021 and beyond.

During the last 48 hours of 2020, Avalon Celtics players were represented at many levels in different rinks and achieving success!  We had AMHA teams bring home championship banners from the Cec Stoyles Memorial Christmas Tournament in Mount Pearl.  Congratulations to our U11B team and U15 A White team for these great victories – the banners will hang proudly in the new Barn!

Our U11A team won a Silver medal at the Paradise Christmas tournament in a very competitive group.  AMHA hosted our own Christmas tournaments including a U13 3 on 3 Half Ice tournament and the U11 House League tournament.  On the Steamrollers and winning team was Yamen Bai, who received his first medal (a GOLD!!) in hockey.  A year ago, Yamen had never skated…. we continue love his story!

Meanwhile, everyone in #CelticsHockeyNation was glued to the TV screen as we watched one of our alumni, Alex Newhook, put it all on the line and deliver an outstanding effort for our Nation at the World Juniors in Edmonton.  Go Alex and GO CANADA!!

In 2020 we all faced many challenges…. In hockey, we had to navigate around the COVID-19 pandemic and try to deliver a close to normal season.  We are extremely thankful to all our Board members, parents, players, and spectators for all the extra effort in developing and following the guidelines that keep our rink and the game safe for all participants and guests.  Our message going forward is quite simple…. ‘Do not let your guard down, put your guard back up!’  While there is optimism and positive signs around the end of the pandemic, everybody must accept we have more work ahead and we must keep pushing to the end.  If everyone does their part and follows all protocol and guidelines, we will achieve our goal of a complete season.

Today, our 2021 calendar year turned over to another Saturday morning session at Feildian Gardens and we see young U9 hockey players smiling and whizzing around the ice.  We must realize and appreciate we are fortunate and among the few regions in Canada where hockey can resume in close to a normal fashion.  So, please keep up the good work and be diligent on following all guidelines and rules so we can stay in the game.

See you at the rink and all the best for a fun and hockey filled 2021!
