DF Barnes Arena set for another great season!
AMHA is sharing this update regarding the recently completed repairs and maintenance at DF Barnes Arena.
We are very pleased to report that the all maintenance items highlighted last spring have been remedied. As our members recall, in February 2024 we experienced a significant electrical failure impacting the electrical supply to the rink. The ongoing repairs and maintenance due to this electrical issue were time-consuming, complicated, and costly. During the process of resolving the main electrical issue, a number of deficiencies in the rink were identified by City inspectors. The deficiencies were typical of an aging structure and we were directed to complete items including; additional electrical outlets, furnace maintenance, improving warm room handrails, new directional signage, and adding an emergency lighting fixture. As the repair timelines extended through the summer period, City officials chose to file the matter with Supreme Court in an attempt to expedite our action.
Today, we are very pleased to report that all required maintenance and repairs to the rink have been completed and signed off by City officials. On October 16 the court matter will be officially released and no further action is required. We hope users of DF Barnes Arena will appreciate these and other improvements including ice plant maintenance, upgraded ice temperature control system, and Zamboni refit.
On the Eve of the 2024-25 hockey season kick off for all members, we are so pleased to welcome everyone back to DF Barnes Arena. We proudly assure all users that DF Barnes Arena will continue to provide a quality and safe environment for Avalon Celtics Hockey and a hub for our extended local hockey communities.
Have a great season!
